We all get busy at times. Family, friends, work, training, chores and around 100 other things that keep us on our toes daily. What’s an ideal way to re spark your athletic interest though? Perhaps for a sport or type of training you haven’t done in a while? Let’s think about that…
Sometimes re sparking or restarting something as an athlete can be super challenging. Having had fitness at a certain level as a runner for example can be demoralizing if you take six months off from running and then jump back into it expecting to have similar fitness. Here are a few tips to get yourself on track if you’re jumping back into something as an athlete.
JUMP RIGHT IN – This sounds cliché but it’s true. Overthinking, hesitation and self-doubt can all lead to procrastination which means a day turns into a week turns into a month and then you’re six months down the road from where you wanted to start originally. Start today no matter how small the step may be.
GROUP MENTALITY – Use your athletic group of friends to help stay motivated and accountable. Tell them your intentions, ask if they’d like to join or train together and see what their feedback might be. This can be a great way to re spark something for your training and get into a social routine to keep doing it again and again.
MAKE A PLAN – This one may also sound cliché, but it’s powerful. Sit down, write out your goals and plans and set intentions to do what you want. Sometimes that first step is the hardest but once you get through that have a plan with what your next step may be. What happens on the 25th step or the 100th step of the plan?
