Colorado Running Training and Cardio

Running is a great way to stay in shape, lose weight and keep yourself healthy. Is training for your next Half Marathon (like our NOCO HALF MARATHON & 10K) something that could motivate you? You bet!

Running and cardio exercise in general can definitely help you lose weight. Cardio most often burns fat from your entire body (not JUST your legs).

THREE QUICK TIPS to get started running

-CHECK YOUR SHOES – seriously…old worn out shoes can make miles of smiles turn into miles of pain. Grab a good pair of running shoes from a local running store, break them in gently and you’ll be much happier.

-START SHORT – again, seriously don’t go out and try to run 10 miles for the first time in 5 years (or ever perhaps). Build up slowly with just 15 minutes for a few days your first week. Then build into 25 minutes for your second week every few days. Then you can look to plan longer time frames or larger distances.

-START SLOW – yes, really…don’t run a 5 min per mile pace if you haven’t run in a long long time. Start slow and go with the flow. Take walk/jog breaks as needed. Avoid running with friends or groups as these tend to push the pace too quickly for newer or restarting runners.

The above is for information and entertainment purposes only. ALWAYS consult with your healthcare professional before starting or changing any exercise routine.
